Headline: "Our hiring is keeping at a very, very aggressive clip," Sandberg said. The pledge comes as the country braces for a massive spike in unemployment. Earlier on Thursday, the U.S. Labor Department reported that more than 6.6 million Americans filed new jobless claims this week.

Headline: “To me, Black History Month is a time of reflection and education. It gives everyone an opportunity to learn about Black history and our rich culture—from food to art to music and more—that has shaped where we are today. It sounds simple, but a lot is often overlooked or forgotten.
There are two things that make me proud to work at the Facebook company. First, I have an opportunity to make a difference in society and fundamentally impact the lives of others. As a member of the Black@ Facebook Resource Group, I’ve helped organize events that promote our culture and build stronger connections. One event I’m particularly proud of is World Afro Day. We brought together Black women in the community so we could share our experiences, learn from each other, and celebrate the beautiful hair we were born with. The second is that I have the freedom and the flexibility to decide how I want to make an impact. To me that means looking for ways to bridge the gap for Black people in tech who find it difficult to get their start in engineering. I’ve hosted events for Black women in STEM, and I mentor students in Sub-Saharan Africa who want to get into engineering.
My advice to allies? Educate yourself. Talk to people. Don’t be afraid to ask what you can do to help. And within the workplace, stand up for your coworkers who may feel singled out or targeted. Most importantly, seek to understand the cultures of others, and accept the cultures of others so we can celebrate our differences.” —Pearl O., Quality Assurance Lead

Headline: “I didn’t go to university, and I was 19 when I began my journey at Facebook through the Apprenticeship Scheme. I had overcome a series of personal setbacks and my confidence was extremely low, but I had a strong feeling the opportunity was right for me. Though I started in Digital Marketing, my manager knew I was interested in engineering and helped guide me into it, which is where I work today. As a solutions engineer on the Global Gaming team, and a gamer myself, I get to stay close to one of my passions while helping our clients and partners grow their businesses. The level of excitement I feel when I solve a problem or hear customer feedback drives me to do more every day.
I came to Facebook to learn, but the people and culture have really blown me away. My colleagues’ dedication to their work inspires me, and everyone brings so much heart to everything they do. It’s hard to describe the massive support I’ve experienced here, but in just two short years, my teammates and managers have helped transform me from a shy young woman into the strong professional woman I am today. It’s an honor to speak on panels, give presentations about what I’ve learned, and share my personal story. I’m lucky to be here, to do this work, and to have the chance to help others while making a difference.” —Annie L., Solutions Engineer, London

Headline: “Making art is a practice in mindfulness. It’s difficult to think of other things when you’re immersed in a creative exercise. I joined the Facebook company as an art curator. Art has been an important part of Facebook’s culture for the past decade, and I wanted to find a way to engage teams directly, in creativity and art practice as an integrated and additive part of their working day.
We started the Team Time Workshops program to empower individuals to explore their creativity and lean on other skills that are often pushed aside. We partner teams with artists for workshops designed to reintroduce individuals to their ‘creative-self’ and by doing so, hope to build a more resilient and empathetic community.
The team was really challenged at first when we assessed the impact of COVID19. I worried we wouldn’t be able to deliver the same experience remotely. When we host in-person workshops, folks can make real things, and even take away a finished piece of art. The challenge of hosting virtual workshops has actually driven us to build a stronger program with more criticality, leading us to build a better overall experience during this time.
Sir Kenneth Robinson, educationalist, defined creativity as ‘the process of having original ideas that have value’. It differs from imagination, which is the ability to bring to mind things that aren't present to your senses. These workshops remind us that manifesting creativity into useful ideas is not an indulgence, but a skill vital to success.” —Josephine K., Art Department Regional Manager
