We've all struggled with our horse being crooked and stiff... Leaning in their corners, unable to keep a correct bend, or moving hollow and anxious, even being spooky. Excess tension in the body prevents the horse from moving well but it also affects their behavior. When we use horses for riding, it is our responsibility to teach them how to use their body to best carry our weight and perform the athletic movements we ask of them. Even if all you want to do is enjoy an amble down the trail on the weekends, a soft and supple horse is a pleasure to ride, moving with better balance and less in trepidation. The downside to ignoring tension in a horse is at best slowly developing soundness issues or at worst, a behavior problem that may appear to be unpredictable but in reality has likely been building for months. In this Free Workshop You Will Learn: ➜ Why too much tension creates many behavior problems ➜ The connection between the horse’s body and emotions ➜ How your horse’s anatomy and conformation are different (and why it matters) ➜ The role of In Hand work in helping the horse become stronger and better balanced In hand exercises help the horse both physically and mentally - and through In Hand work, we improve the horse’s strength and suppleness. We teach him to be aware of his body, to bend evenly to both sides, and to move forwards, backwards, and laterally - smoothly, softly and in a biomechanically correct way. What is balance When we think of riding, we may think first of physical balance... can we move with our horse, sit a spook, and feel easy and effortless. Balance however is more than just physical proprioception and adjustments of our body. Riding also requires balance in mindset, time and learning. A rider may have an impeccable seat, quiet hands, a still lower leg, but not be balanced in the full meaning of the word if they drill exercises until there is no joy left, or if they have no relationship with their horse beyond his capability to respond to their cues. Riding well is about so much more than just posture and movement in the saddle. From September 7, I will be offering the free workshop from my Balanced Riding Course. When I created this course, I was thinking of balance not just in the sense of staying in the saddle, but also in becoming a great horseman or horsewoman, finding balance in each area of riding. Headline: Training sessions can get boring. Am I right? You show up at the barn, tack up, head to the arena, walk around a bit, pick up a trot, ride some circles. Trot a few more circles. Try to remember what your instructor told you at your last lesson. And finally dismount, knowing that neither you nor your horse made any real progress. We can study riding and know all the theories, but no matter how much riding knowledge we have, it only lives in our heads until we get out and practice. However, if our practice is aimless or we only repeat the same "bad" habits and patterns, we will not make any real progress. If you want to be a balanced, confident rider but don’t know what to practice and are tired of making aimless circles around the arena… ...then use Stay in the Saddle to create an effective training plan for you and your horse... Because Every Ride Counts! Create hundreds of different exercise combinations for fun and learning with every ride - no more boring circles!
