Meet International Children’s Peace Prize nominee, Hadiqa! 🕊️👩‍⚖️ Hadiqa is now 18 years old and from SaiduSharif, the capital of Swat Valley in Pakistan🇵🇰. Hadiqa was seven years old when her friend, then engaged, was banned from any form of play and from school. After the marriage, the friend began to show cuts, bruises and other signs of the violence inflicted by her new husband. When Hadiqa turned 11, she received a marriage proposal, but with the help of an uncle she managed to avoid this fate. From then on she has strived to save other girls from similar situations and founded Girls United for Human Rights (GUHR).⁠ .⁠ After school, Hadiqa goes from house to house to talk to women, persuading them to not marry off their young teenage daughters. Girls United for Human Rights is a group of 15 girls that promotes gender equality and builds the capacity of girls to ensure equal opportunities for themselves. They have also made a comic book based on real life challenges faced by girls, which are distributed in schools.
