"We got the Owlet Smart Sock after I learned about it from a co-worker, who'd had a red notification and decided to take her baby to the hospital, resulting in a NICU stay. We had been using it on our two-week-old, Charlie, since we made it home from the hospital. When we put him down on Sunday night, he sounded a bit funny and his oxygen readings looked lower than normal. After hours of staying awake with him and several red notifications (and clear signs that he was struggling to breathe), we headed to the ER at 2am. We still thought we were overreacting; we weren't. They took one look at him, saw his O2 saturation was in the 70s and heart rate was extremely high, and put us in an ambulance to be admitted to the pediatric ICU unit at the larger hospital an hour away.\n\nLuckily he 'only' had rhinovirus (aka the Common Cold) and not the flu, RSV or pneumonia, but mucus and tiny airways isn't a great combo. He needed to be on extra full-flow oxygen for a few days to get enough air. Our little dude is doing much better, and I am super happy to not be stuck in a hospital room trying to console a tiny human hooked up to a lot of wires and wrapped in a lot of blankets.\n\nWe're extremely grateful we were using the Smart Sock. Now that we're home, it's very reassuring to check his O2 levels and see them back in the normal range. It’s clear now how low and out of the norm they were the night he got sick.
