Lorsque vous avez peur, quelles sensations physiques percevez-vous ? Peut-être ressentez-vous une boule dans la gorge, des frissons le long de l’échine ou une crispation de la mâchoire. Mais il existe une autre réaction très courante que l’on ne remarque pas forcément, du moins pas consciemment : une tension dans la zone des fléchisseurs des hanches. C’est le muscle grand psoas qui se manifeste – un tissu sensible enfoui profondément dans la sangle abdominale et pelvienne. Le psoas vous permet d’amener les genoux vers la poitrine, de gravir une pente ou de monter les escaliers. En yoga aussi, ce muscle a son importance : il favorise un alignement stable et équilibré, assure la rotation adéquate des articulations et permet une amplitude de mouvement complète. Et lorsque vous vous sentez menacé, il s’active et vous prépare à passer à l’action. Le psoas et le stress Le psoas joue un rôle crucial dans notre réaction au stress. Lorsque nous faisons face à une menace, qu’elle soit réelle ou perçue comme telle, notre corps a trois options : se battre, s’enfuir ou se figer. Hip Opening Yoga Workshop £15 for a space It is said that we store emotion in our hips, specifically trauma, and while we can't scientifically pin down a correlation between tightness in the hips and our emotions, we do know that when we are in stressful situations (“fight or flight” occurrences), we engage our emotional muscles, and we tighten our hips. The tighter our hips, the tighter the lower back; with tension amassing in these regions, the Psoas is prone to shortening, making it harder to walk, sit, stand, and practice yoga. Our lifestyle choices of office work, sitting too much, attending the gym without stretching prior all result in hip flexor compression and shortening leading to hip, knee and lower back pain and problems. Running and cycling can also have similar impacts on the hips. Learning to open your hips safely is the prime goal of this workshop – we will use seated, supine and standing postures to increase range of movement, muscle, joint and ligament strength and flexibility. This workshop will contain yoga asana that will help open and release your hips, through slow yoga and yin yoga we will slowly but surely delve into the connective tissue and safely increase flexibility. Please wear comfortable yoga clothing, bring props such as bolsters, blocks and straps if you wish. Bring a water bottle with you and if you don’t have your own yoga mat, one will be provided for you.
