What we’ve realized is that it’s about more than just knowing what to eat. It’s about doing the mental work to help us get to a place where we’re able to make good eating decisions in the moment. I have a coaching group for women who, like me, are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In working with clients, I’ve realized there are 5 lies people tell themselves about overeating that actually sabotage their ability to make healthy choices when the food is sitting on the plate right in front of them. Once I realized I was telling myself these same lies when I was thinking about my relationship with food and my body, I was able to make the changes that I had been trying to make for years. When we’re trying to make physical changes, we have to do more than count points or carbs. We have to consider the mental side of overeating.
