#ChinaFaces: Self-learned meteorological expert help farmers for 50 years Wang Jiuping has been predicting the weather in Mucun Village since 1962. The amateur meteorologist in north China's Shanxi Province, with only a middle school education background, learned using a series of folk approaches and real-world experience. For instance, he observes the wetness of sugar and salt as a balance scale to measure humidity. His experience has also helped him predict rainfall for farmers. While observing weather changes, 77-year-old Wang founded a local weather newspaper to help farmers avoid natural disasters. He's also used his knowledge to increase crops yields and prevent pests and diseases. His research on soil also helped the village start growing a new variety of sorghum and wheat in 1971.

Noa is a 37 year old mother of 6 children,She passed away last week of a malignant tumor that was diagnosed at a very progressed stage I hear this story and cry. I cry. Not just because of the terrible loss. I cry because I can't stop thinking "Maybe, maybe we could have saved her" if she had only been aware of the importance of early detection a few months earlier, when her body was just starting to signal that something was wrong? What would have happened if on that day she had gone to get checked up - before the metastases started to spread? Before it was too late? Maybe if we had managed to get to her earlier today her 6 children would not have been orphans, going to bed with tears of longing in their eyes? I am Sarah, the founder of Bishvilech (For You), I vividly remember that day in 2002, when I opened the newspaper and read an article that showed that the percentage of ultra-Orthodox women who die of breast cancer is twice (!) as much as in the general public. After I did a little research of my own I realized the hard truth. How can such a shocking reality be possible. The ultra-Orthodox woman usually has an average of 7 children, and often she's a single breadwinner. She's the one who thinks of everyone, About her husband, the kids, her friends, her family ... about everyone. But ... she doesn't take good enough care of herself Many women develop aggressive cancers during their blessed daily life and they don’t have the time to pay attention to themselves. But then, the diagnosis comes late. Too late. At a stage when the tumor has already spread and it's almost time to say 'Kaddish' .. And it's a matter of awareness. The more ultra-Orthodox women are aware that they must stop everything and check what is happening to them, make time to go checked up - the mortality rate will deplete significantly. When I started our awareness raising activities, the word "cancer" and the word "breast" were two words that should not be pronounced in the ultra-Orthodox sector, any mention of them was something that sounded immodest. Bringing them into awareness was a task that required a complete transformation And it wasn't easy, I was often criticized, and my ads often didn’t pass the paper's censorship. Many asked me "why are you getting into in the first place?" But I knew that this was a matter of life and death. Literally The 'Bishvilech' organization operates on 2 levels. In introducing awareness among women for taking routine checkups for early detection of malignancies by arranging conferences and information leaflet. In addition, we run unique clinics for women. Clinics that emphasize the sensitivity of the matter, include innovative treatments and maximum professionalism. everything so that the ultra-Orthodox and religious woman would feel comfortable coming to get checked up despite the fear and the unpleasantness. every day I get dozens of phone calls from hesitant women who feel comfortable consulting with women from their own sector discreetly. More often than not, these conversations, the open line we have created, save women and allow them to stop the disease at the very beginning, when it is still possible. we have reached an amazing result of over 70% of women who are going to get checked up in the ultra-Orthodox sector. That's an amazing result. But that's not enough. 'Bishvilech' is a nonprofit organization. Following the crisis of recent months, we have not received funding for the continuation of the activity and we are on the verge of closing, G-d forbid. I turn to you dear women. So far I've really tried to do everything on my own, but I can't go on anymore. Right now there are women walking around with a ticking bomb in their body. And I need your help to keep raising awareness, so that they'll know the importance of early detection. It's a matter of hundreds of women's lives, thousands of orphans a year. The season this picture was taken I ended up being Rookie of the Year and lead all rookies in scoring in the NSJHL. And to make a long story short, 4 years after getting cut from 4 straight teams I signed my first contract as a professional hockey player. And as most of my former teammates were hanging them up, I was on my way to pretty successful 10 year career as a pro. Ya I got better physically during those 4 seasons, but what truly set me apart was my mindset, mental game and hockey IQ. I was far from the most skilled player on any team I played. But I found a way to get it done. Ever since I’ve retired from the game my goal has been to help hockey players do the same. . Optimize their thinking, max out their confidence and have them showing up to each and every game confident, focused and ready to play to their full potential.
