If handstand is one of your dreams and you're only at the beginning of your journey (or you haven't started yet!), you're probably in a similar place I was a few years ago.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I believed that I have to have crazy upper body strength in order to hold a handstand I bought into the idea that yoga is the way (I blame Instagram for this) I thought it's JUST about practice and it's going to simply come with time I figured I can just wing it by watching YouTube videos ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, let me save you a few years and tell you that all of the above statements proved to be FALSE (at least in my experience).. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is what I learnt.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ >> Having a lot of upper body strength is nice, but it's not everything. Focusing on learning proper technique is the key. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ >> Yoga is amazing tool for reconnecting to our bodies and minds, but by no means is it the best way to learn a handstand. Nothing beats focused handstand training. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ >> Consistent practice is essential, but it won't do much without a good game plan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ >> All the YouTube videos either did not apply to my situation (either too advanced or too beginner) and most importantly, there was no progression offered. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The beliefs I shared at the beginning are exactly what makes us stuck, repeating the same things over and over again and not seeing any results (yup, definition of insanity). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don't blame myself for believing in all this and I don't blame you if you're in the same boat I was a few years back.
