A lot of people would love to get paid to take pictures… Yet most never do. It’s not because there isn’t an easy way to do it - there is (more on that soon)... It’s simply because most people don’t know it’s possible. Or they don’t know how to do it, or where to even begin. That’s a shame, because it’s easier than you think. The only “barriers to entry” are purely psychological. For one thing, when most people think of getting paid to take pictures, they think of a wedding or portrait photographer. That’s just a lack of imagination right there! There’s a MUCH better way to make money taking photos… But people think “wedding photographer” because that’s such a common stereotype. There are a lot of problems with photographing weddings… For one thing, it’s mostly a weekend gig.. And it’s almost impossible to get REPEAT business, because chances are the couple you’re photographing won’t get married again… Weddings are also a pain to shoot because they’re all different -- it’s a lot of work and then you have to hope that both the bride and groom are happy with the photos. Honestly, it’s one of the worst ways to try to make a living with photography. I think you probably know that, which is why you’re reading this, so I won’t say more on that subject... Another stereotype that actually keeps people from making money with their camera, is the Journalistic Photographer. You know, like that insane person who climbs inside of a freaking volcano to take a photo to sell to National Geographic for $20,000... Other than a few daredevil types, who is realistically going to do that? I don’t know about you, but when I first decided I wanted to make money with my camera, I had something a little...shall we say, SANER in mind… But still, I didn’t know what to do, or where to even begin… Until… My mom asked me if I could take some photos of a house. She was working as a Real Estate Agent, and her boss (aka Broker) needed someone to photograph one of the properties they were selling. I wasn’t a professional photographer. I was just a teenager, who had no idea how to photograph Real Estate. But the Broker was offering $50… And since I was a student in need of cash, I said yes! Unbeknownst to me at the time, I made every mistake a person can make when photographing Real Estate! But the Broker was still happy with the photos, and I was $50 richer. That was only the beginning. I was about to learn that I’d stumbled on an incredible way to turn my BASIC photography skills, into cash. See the thing is, people who sell Real Estate need tons of photos… All of their properties are listed online, on sites like Zillow, Trulia, and others… And above all else, people who browse those sites want to see lots of PICTURES of the houses that are up for sale. Which means Realtors need to POST tons of photos on those sites. More importantly, they don’t have the time or desire to take those photos themselves. Which means they’re happy to PAY someone else -- like you or me -- to do it. Another thing I was about to learn, was that Realtors TALK to each other… They talk a lot, actually... They love to share helpful resources with one another… So when you do a good job taking photos for one of them, they go around and tell all of their colleagues about you. In other words, they ADVERTISE for you… For free. I told you this was an amazing business opportunity for anyone interested in making money with photography, and I wasn’t kidding -- check out what happened next for me… Before long, word got around that I was available to take Real Estate photos… That I was fast, and reliable, and did a pretty good job… Can you guess what happened next? That’s right, more and more agents started to contact me… They were practically begging to hire me to take photos of their listings. Think about that -- while most “professional” photographers were out trying to hustle up a wedding gig for next weekend, my phone was practically ringing off the hook with people who couldn’t wait to pay me to take some p
