Ever look in the mirror and feel like the person looking back doesn’t reflect who you want to be? I know I have. For years I struggled with my self image. I would camp out on my couch, binge watching Netflix and snacking myself into a carb coma. ️ Then I would have a heart-to-heart with myself. I would tell myself, “I’m so tired of living like this. I’m so tired of hating my body and myself…” And I would decide to change. From then on out I was going to eat better and exercise... And I would. I would go to the store and drop hundreds of dollars getting everything I would need to start the newest trending crash diet “guaranteed” to help me drop the weight, once and for all. But I didn’t stop there. I was so dedicated to making this work that I also bought workout equipment. I purchased a fancy treadmill with all the bells and whistles, and spent hours everyday walking mile after mile, just waiting for those extra inches to melt away. After about a week I stepped on the scale and saw that I dropped a few pounds. I was so excited. I really thought that I could do this. I could make this work… Then one weekend night, barely a week into my new transformation journey, my family wanted to go out for dinner. At this point I had been eating practically cardboard and my muscles were so sore. And I thought, “Why not? Haven’t I earned this?” I figured that if I were going to make that night a cheat night, I may as well make it count. And I did. We had dinner and then went out for ice cream. And that was all it took. I was off the bandwagon. I stepped on the scale the next morning and saw that nearly all the weight I lost was back. I was so upset… How was it that after all that hard work everything came back after just one cheat night… And just like I always did, I gave up on myself. I can look back now and see why it didn’t work. I was shocking my body and when I decided I would cheat a little I didn’t have the self discipline to make better choices. Then, after stepping on the scale just to be disappointed, I quit. This was too hard. I didn’t understand how other people do it... I thought… There has to be a better way. And I was right. After I stopped pitying myself I made a few of the biggest, most amazing decisions I ever made in my entire life. What were those big decisions? I decided to join the Free 21-Day Transformation Program. I made a commitment to myself and if I was going to follow through with it I needed to be a part of a community of like-minded people. People who pushed themselves to start their own fitness transformations. People I could talk to when I started to lose motivation. Times have gotten pretty crazy, right? Whether by choice or government intervention… The Gyms are closed. And this could actually be a good thing… Don’t get me wrong... Gyms are great. I use them. I recommend them. But nothing will have as big of an influence on your fitness goals as nutrition. So if someone is locked in (like most of us)… Now is the perfect time to find great recipes… To practice your cooking skills… To get your nutrition on point… Nutrition is 90% of the equation. If you have time to eat, you have time to reach your fitness goals. For my clients, they have transitioned into working out from home during these times. So the gyms being closed is having 0% impact on their fitness goals. If anything, it has made things easier for them. And think about it… Even when gyms do open up, will you take the risk of going into a confined environment where 100s of strangers touch all the equipment you will be using? It’s a perfect breeding ground for the virus if you think about it. Is it worth the risk? Believe it or not, life will not go back to being completely normal until there is a vaccine available to the public in mass quantities. Me last October at under 57KG 167cm ⁣ By far the hardest prep I had done mentally & physically I had never done two comps in a year - it tested me so much. The truth is that you don't have to follow the same path that 99% of people follow to get in shape. Especially since most of them fail in the long run anyway. It makes me feel sick when I see the same meal prep photos. There's always a picture of 7 egg whites, exactly 1 cup of spinach, & 1/2 a slice of bread that's tastes like cardboard. Meal prep pictures we see all over the internet have every last detail labeled to the milligram. To show exactly how much protein, carbs, and fats you'll be getting with every meal. These fitness "professionals" track every last calorie. Just so they could have a quest bar, a high protein chocolate chip cookie, or a skinny cow ice cream at the end of the day. All while pretending to be happier than I would be at an all you can eat self serve ice cream station. Obsessing over your diet 24/7 like that will just give you a bad case of OCD and make every meal you prep & eat feel like work. Trust me I get it, I've been there. It took a while for me to remember a time when I would simply eat when I was hungry and eat until I felt full. MIND-BLOWING RIGHT? But I can tell you this... This is going to ruffle a few feathers... In fitness, there's "Action Takers" and "Excuse Makers". Excuse makers love to create reasons why they “CAN’T” “I don’t have time to workout” “I’m too old to get in shape” “I’m not motivated” “My family doesn’t support me” “It's too expensive” “Next month will be better” “I can’t eat right on the go” “I’ve tried everything” ...and you get the idea. Action takers love to create reasons why they “CAN” They learn how to overcome the obstacles of their day to day grind. They focus on solutions and once they start they must finish. Excuse makers get nothing in life... you'll find them in the same spot year after year. Action takers get everything in life...you’ll find them flying high, loving life. To change our lives we have to change our story and take MASSIVE action. So I’m not going to lie or sugarcoat it, getting in amazing shape takes hard work & effort ...but it doesn’t have to suck like most people make it out to be.
