A mentor of mine told me that success if 80% mindset and 20% strategy. \n\nI LOVE talking about strategy, tactics, actual technical how-to's for growing handmade businesses. \n\nBut it's true, much of what I've been able to accomplish in the last decade is due to mindset. \n\nHow do you get your mindset in order so you can grow your business? \n\nThis is cliche, but it's true - you dig deep and understand WHY you want a business. \n\nI want to take this concept a step further, because once you understand your WHY, you gotta have tools to do all the things in your business that's not fun to do. Like promotion and marketing. \n\nKnowing your WHY is one of those tools.\n\nAnother tool is hacking your brain. Outsmarting it, so you're doing good and productive work, despite not wanting to. \n\nFor example. I've never flossed consistently in my life. Until this last month, I had to get my first root canal and crown. My first dental visit was for X-rays, so they could identify what was wrong. I had been living with tooth pain for 4 years. I was expecting the worst. Infection. Tooth removal.\n\nInstead, it would just be a regular root canal. No infection. They could save the tooth. \n\nGet this. In my mind, I felt like I got graded by the dentist. I passed. My tooth wasn't in the worst condition. That meant I took good care of it! Yay! \n\nA couple weeks later I met with a girlfriend and she shares with me her dentist story. She got "graded" too. Her recent visit for a cleaning, they didn't even floss her! Because she flosses every day. \n\nIt was such a silly, unepic story. No angels were singing to me. \n\nBut that was enough of a tipping point for me. \n\nI was like... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. \n\nI want to get good "grades" when I go to the dentist next.\n\nRight after my lunch date with my friend, I've been flossing daily, ever since. \n\nHere's another story.
