The average person lives 27,375 days.. It takes me 23 seconds to tie my shoe.. I tie my shoe 4 times per day.. That’s about 30 days of my life wasted tying my shoe.. I brush my teeth twice per day.. It takes me 4 minutes to brush my teeth.. That’s 162 days of my life spent brushing my teeth.. I used to spend 30 minutes driving to work.. That would be a total of 550 days of my life wasted in traffic.. Since we are human and sleep about 8 hours per day.. Thats around 9,125 days of our life spent sleeping. And because we work.. That’s another 9,125 days wasted doing something we hate.. Here's the thing about time.. Time is precious.. And is something that we could never get back.. Once its gone... Its gone.. And if I didn’t find a way to win back my time then I would have ended up at the end of my life in pure regret.. Here's what I mean.. The sneaky drinks at sleepovers in my early teens, to the odd glass of wine allowed at special occasions. I always had a baby face and was often refused when trying to buy beer at the shop when underage. So, when I turned 18 and was legal to buy alcohol, I loved the feeling of getting one over on the cashier and proving I was old enough. I bought more and more, and it made me feel like a proper grown up. This progressed from a couple of times a week to every day. Beer in the evening was now the norm. Fast forward 20 odd years and I am happily married with 3 beautiful kids, but still a heavy drinker. I wasn’t one for going out so always drank at home and at least 4 pints a night would be my baseline. If I saw there was only 3 cans or bottles in the fridge, I would get anxious and HAVE to buy some more to cover that evening. I could see my health deteriorating. I was snappy and grumpy, very anxious and often full of self-loathing with zero confidence. I was becoming more and more withdrawn from my family, missing out on days out because of hangovers, not wanting to participate in any parties they were having or going to. I knew the money I spent on alcohol could be better spent on days out with the family, but I just couldn’t stop. It was selfish but I just wanted to sit at home and drink. I was putting on weight and getting out of breath really easily so when I did have the energy to play with the kids, it didn’t last very long. I wanted to stop drinking, I knew I had to, but I just couldn’t. All day I’d be firm in my decision that I wasn’t going to drink, but as soon as I’d get home, I’d grab a beer, telling myself “It’s been a hard day, I’ve earned this, and I’ll stop tomorrow”. I was taking big risks by driving the following morning, as I was probably still over the limit. I managed a couple of nights AF here and there and convinced myself I could stop whenever I wanted to...nope. I just kept on drinking! My wife had said a few times over the years that she was worried about my alcohol consumption, but she knew that if she nagged me to quit, I would dig my heels in and probably just drink more. She had to let me find the right time to stop. In October we went to parents evening at school, and as we were flicking through my son’s book, we came to the topic of “My Family’ where he had been asked to draw his family. His drawing of his mummy was that of a princess with flowers around her, his drawing of his sisters were of them playing in the garden on a slide...his picture of me was a man sitting in an armchair watching football with a box next to him with “beer” written on it. This absolutely crushed me to the core. This is how my son sees me. I wanted to cry in shame and guilt right there but knew I couldn’t. But that moment planted a seed in my head of giving up. One night I was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and there, in the sidebar, like a shining guiding star, was an advert for OYNB. I read through the blurb and a few member testimonials talking about how much their lives had changed because of quitting alcohol. I chose the 28-Day Challenge...click...that was it, I’d started! My first act of my newfound sobriety was to pour the rest of my open beer, and the remaining two cans in the fridge, down the sink. -- Freedom from Anxiety at Last The Story of a proud Mom and her Hypnotherapist -- A 5 Minute Read This is Jade, a 39 year old proud Mom of two who came to my office in June of 2018 as a last resort to deal with her anxiety. Unfortunately, hypnotherapy is usually seen as just that… A last resort. It is my hope that sharing stories such as Jade’s will allow hypnotherapy to become a first response. It was the usual story… medication, regular panic attacks, constant psychologist visits and a sense of overwhelm. Jade had a full-blown panic attack on sitting in my office, her neck locked up and she was hyperventilating. Logically, she knew she was safe in that moment, but a part of her was telling her otherwise... Upon calming down and after a bit of reassurance, I asked Jade how long she had suffered from anxiety. “All my life”… The first time she remembered feeling anxious was at 18 years old; a family incident resulted in the same nervous feeling in her body and an overall feeling of being unsafe. There is a saying in society that goes, "time heals all wounds". Unfortunately this is only true at a conscious level… The conscious mind knows that smoking is bad for you, excessive chocolate is not a great idea and that you don’t need that extra glass of wine - but the logical, conscious mind represents only 10% of our awareness. Our subconscious mind represents 90% of our awareness, it is an incredibly powerful storehouse of information where all of our habits, patterns, behaviours and memories reside. Our logical, conscious mind has no control over our emotions; it’s left to our child-like subconscious mind (the 90%). The biggest role of our subconscious mind is to keep us safe and to ensure our survival. It thinks that we need our symptoms like anxiety or depression as coping mechanisms or something worse may happen - in essence our symptoms are there to protect us. The conscious mind loves the concept of time… Linear time. Say you’re 40 today, you were born 40 years ago and if a trauma (be it your parent’s divorce, crime, bullying, abuse) happens at age 10, society says “time heals all wounds” or “it’s time to get over it”. The problem (and blessing) is, in the subconscious mind, there is no time, there's only energy. Every sight, smell, sound, feeling and experience has left an impression that has been anchored in your subconscious. That imprint could be a result of an event (something that happened), a belief (what was believed at the time of the event) or a feeling (the feeling that the event evoked). Once Jade had entered the relaxed state of hypnosis, I gave her the suggestion to go back to the very first time she ever felt the same anxious feeling in her body to take her to the root cause of her anxiety. Jade went back to a memory long forgotten from when she was 4 years old. She was standing in front of a male family member who mocked the freckles on her nose, calling her “fly-**** nose”. This interaction had been suppressed for 35 years and her emotional release from remembering it was enormous. The reality is that Jade's subconscious was stuck with the feeling she first felt at Age 4 and with the belief that she wasn’t good enough. Since the interaction with her family member, she thought something was wrong with her, and the same feeling of anxiousness had stuck with her every day. The same belief and feeling was compounded with bullying in primary school and then in high school along with various events in life. The energy had built and built to the point where at age 39, it was debilitating. In a hypnotic state, we healed and released the event; washing the healing all the way to the present day and beyond. Jade was released from her anxiety at long last. Hypnosis is widely misunderstood but there is nothing mysterious about what I do. It is a natural state that you go into many times each day where you’re focused on one activity and everything else falls to the background. For example, when you’re driving. 3 Reasons Why Smart, Hardworking People Don't Become Successful
The average person lives 27,375 days.. It takes me 23 seconds to tie my shoe.. I tie my shoe 4 times per day.. That’s about 30 days of my life wasted tying my shoe.. I brush my teeth twice per day.. It takes me 4 minutes to brush my teeth.. That’s 162 days of my life spent brushing my teeth.. I used to spend 30 minutes driving to work.. That would be a total of 550 days of my life wasted in traffic.. Since we are human and sleep about 8 hours per day.. Thats around 9,125 days of our life spent sleeping. And because we work.. That’s another 9,125 days wasted doing something we hate.. Here's the thing about time.. Time is precious.. And is something that we could never get back.. Once its gone... Its gone.. And if I didn’t find a way to win back my time then I would have ended up at the end of my life in pure regret.. Here's what I mean.. Omar Valero | From The Park Bench To Successful Entrepreneur
It was 6 am. I was alone on a park bench, crying my eyes out. The reason? I felt trapped in a job that I’d spent my whole life pursuing but now HATED. I can look back at that moment, as being the key turning point in my life. It was a powerful moment of realization. A moment that caused the massive leverage I needed to force change and become who I am today… A successful online entrepreneur. So first, let me go back and explain from the beginning… I’d come from a traditional background where my parents had encouraged me to pursue the ‘‘tried-and-tested’’ route through life. This meant… Go to school. Get good grades. Find my way into a top college. Graduate with honors. Land a job at a large and famous corporate firm. Keep my head down. Work hard. Climb the ladder. Save and be frugal. Retire with a nice little nest-egg and enjoy the golden years somewhere warm. Along the way...get married...and start a family. That was the grand plan instilled in me. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? It’s preached by society as ‘’the way’’. If a person follows that route, then they’re considered smart, hard-working, and a good sensible citizen of the world. For many people, this is an outdated life plan that simply doesn’t work anymore. For me, however, it WAS working. BUT I was MISERABLE doing it. I’d gone to the college I’d been shooting for, graduated with top grades and landed my ‘’dream job’’ as an engineer. I had a corporate ladder to climb and it was all mapped out ahead of me. I could be in a supervisor position in five years. In another five I’d be a manger. Five more, and I might make the Department Head. I’d get a company car and my own corner office. Woohoo! My bosses saw me as one of the brightest prospects in the company. I was supposed to be living the dream. Instead, I was bored and depressed. The boredom of my job wasn’t the REAL PROBLEM, however. If I’d been a bachelor, with only myself to look out for...I probably could’ve stomached it. But I had my loving girlfriend Marta and a beautiful baby son Patrick at home. Working like a slave at this job and being away from them for 12 hours a day...is what killed me. And it’s what reduced me to tears that morning in the park, as I walked to work. I was working a job I hated, and missing out on precious time with my young family. Whatsmore, the money wasn’t even that great. We were just surviving. So there seemed no end to the sacrifice. As I sat there crying, on that park bench, on a frosty winter morning...my moment of clarity came. Nothing was going to change unless I made it happen. There was no cavalry coming. And this wasn’t my parent’s fault...or anybody else’s. I had to take full responsibility for the situation I found myself in. If the situation was going to change...I was going to be the one to change it. And I HAD to find the way. Exactly how? I had an idea, but I wasn’t sure in that moment. I simply knew that I MUST find the way. I couldn’t face living the rest of my working life this way. Another three decades, at least!! I wanted abundance, creativity, and to be my own boss. More than anything, I wanted more free time to spend with my son and my loving girlfriend. That was the PAIN. And that was my driving FORCE. My hunch? My idea? Online business. To become a successful online entrepreneur. I didn’t know a thing about it...other than it could potentially give me the lifestyle I craved for. So I started to study and learn. Every spare moment I got. Evenings, weekends, lunch breaks. Even on the morning walk into work, I’d listen to audiobooks and business podcasts. I’d read book after book. Watch video after video. I purchased courses and followed the words of online guru’s. I learned the strategies, methods, and systems to make cash from online sources. I wish I could say good things happened to me fast from then on. But sadly, that wasn’t the case. Many more months of struggle followed. I failed and failed again. I felt depersonalization and weird physical symptoms like tingling skin. Some days it felt like I was living in a hazy dream world. I was constantly tired and couldn’t think straight. I remember it like it was yesterday… I’m in a crappy hotel in Athens, Georgia with two of my buddies. After a long week of hustling hard on my first business, I took a road trip up from Florida for the weekend... After settling in, we get to bed exhausted as can be...But there’s a problem. My heart is beating out of my chest. I have a tightness near my heart that has been there for weeks. (I’m 26 years old at the time, mind you!) I try to go to bed… Yet I can’t. I’m exhausted and delirious, but can’t fall asleep. When I do nod off... I immediately wake up gasping for breath. My buddies have already passed out, and I’m laying there wondering if I’m going to die. Nod off to sleep again, and again - I’m up gasping for breath. I have to consciously tell myself to breathe and am just trying to survive, praying to make it to the morning. After repeating this gasping several more times, I admit defeat, wake up my buddies, and tell them, “You have to call 911.” The paramedics came. They checked me out in detail. It turns out, I was fine… just having an anxiety attack from putting myself under so much stress. ❌ Financial stress, work stress, lack of sleep stress, hustling too hard stress. My body was giving me a sign that my current path of building a business was NOT going to work. I thought for sure I was going to die that night. I knew that someday I’d die...But at 26 from trying to be a superhero building my business No way. I knew there had to be a better, simpler way. The solopreneur, do-it-all-yourself, grind and hustle mentality had to go. ❌ That’s not a long-term strategy for success. And it cost me a lot. The clock read 12:52am ... I just got home from driving 6 hours and working 10 hours on the road doing direct sales in a single day. To hit my sales target I needed to be working deals the entire time so it occurred to me that I hadn't eaten anything since 7am but I wasn't able to eat anything from complete exaughston. I felt pain in my chest, heart and my head was throbbing but I didn't have a headache. I could tell right away that something was seriously wrong. At that moment I thought to myself, "Hey, I'm not sure what's going on, but I need to see a doctor." Normally I can sleep off any issues I have and I'll feel better the next day... But the pain continued getting worse and my sales targets for my job became more and more demanding. I began to see the correlation between the two. As my target got larger and more unrealistic so did my personal health condition. Fast forward a few days after trying to "tough it out" and keep going I'm at a walk in clinic at Apple Tree Medical Centre... The reality of the situation didn't click in until the doctor's facial expressions started to tip me off on how bad the stress had been eating away at my body and my mind. My doctor left the room for a few minutes and I was watching a video on my phone of me playing with my niece and nephew chasing balloons around in the house and I felt tears fill up in my eyes. This is when I realized it was a serious situation. The next few minutes waiting for the doctor to return felt like hours ... I remember what the doctor told me like I was still in the walk in clinic, "You have so much stress and anxiety about your sales targets and personal income goals that your body and brain are working against each other instead of together." Although my job paid well in the top 5% nation wide, it was extremely stressful and involved working 70 hours a week and some weeks even north of 80 hours. The job was really demanding ... I spent more time driving than most people spend at their actual jobs. At the end of the day it was the endless frustration of having my entire life dictated by my work and hitting a sales target every month. It ate away at me over the years. When I left the walk in clinic and got in my car where I spent more time than in my apartment I realized that if I didn't become the agent of change in my life ... I would never get out of living in this damn car! I would continue on knowing full well that I'm doing what I wasn't put on the earth to do ... I would go on living with having to listen to something in the back of my head that kept reminding me over and over that I'm not actually happy with my life. I just couldn't bare to live like that any longer ... After becoming bed ridden for weeks from total burnout, I went on a rampage searching online for a way to start my own business but my problem was I didn't know what I was searching for or who's programs were real and who's were a scam. Finally one late evening I was scrolling Facebook and I came across a video that peaked my interest ... The guy in the video explained how he had created his own business completely online from his laptop in very little time and how I could do the same thing too ... I thought, "Well this guy doesn't seem like a tech wizard or computer scientist. He seems more like a guy I would meet at a party." But at the same time I was skeptical because it didn't make sense to me how someone that clearly wasn't gifted in computer technology could have even possibly been successful at creating his own business online ... In the end I'm happy to say that I went with my instinct and decided that ... If he could do it ... I could do it! I didn't realize it but in that exact moment my life was about to make a huge turn for the better beyond my wildest dreams or expectations ... And that's exactly what happened.
